naturopathy uses natural remedies to help the body heal by
strengthening the body's own vital curative energy. This has been
practiced in one form or another since time immemorial. It is
based on three premises. 1. all
diseases are caused by accumulation of waste material or toxins in
the body.
2. there is a vital curative force within
the human organism.
3. the body has the power to heal itself
if given the right circumstances.
Naturopathy treatment depends on assessing
the failure of the body's normal adaptive mechanisms and providing
the optimal circumstances for the body to restore its own
haemostasis. Naturopathic assessment is holistic, assessing both
patient's physical symptoms and psychosocial factors and
lifestyle. Naturopathic assessment may also include analysis of
the blood, urine and hair, looking for biochemical evidence of
nutritional deficiency and the accumulation of toxic metals.
Naturopathy includes nutritional, physical
and psychological therapies.
The nutritional therapy usually starts
with fasting or diet restriction. This allows the body a
physiological rest to remove metabolic waste and restore
haemostasis. Then an individually designed diet may be prescribed
with emphasis on the consumption of natural foods and with
supplements of vitamins, trace elements, essential fatty acids and
amino acids.
Many patients with advanced receive
naturopathic treatment. This may improve their nutritional state.
Many other patients may appreciate the support given by the
holistic approach of naturopathy.
