| In Malaysia, the
National Cancer Research reported that prostate cancer is the
sixth most common cancer among Malaysian men.
Generally, the public and many doctors are
not aware that prostate cancer is curable if detected early.
The reasons: indifference, ignorance, and unwillingness of men to
discuss the problem.
With this in mind, Mayfirst Gold Sdn. Bhd
is creating through its campaign, CEKAP, for Cegah Kanser Prostat.
CEKAP was launched by Datin Dr. Rogayah Bakri, Deputy Director of
the Medical Development Division, Ministry of Health. The local
celebrity Jalaluddin Hassan was invited to participate in the
launching of the campaign. Jalaluddin has been appointed CEKAP
campaign spokesperson and ambassador.
Epidemiological studies have shown that
one in every 10 men will develop prostate cancer. Often, symptoms
such as incontinence and frequent urination especially at night
are assumed as aging problems. Unfortunately, incontinence and
nocturia can be early symptoms of prostate cancer.
The CEKAP campaign for 2007 will include
roadshows, free talks and health screenings.
